LaDuree opens to huge crowds this morning

Posted by Niko on August 31st, 2011

Are these still the best macarons in New York?

Though DessertBuzz missed the opening of LaDuree on the Upper East side today (links to reports below if you’r e interested).  I recommend not reading about it and just going over and checking it out first hand.  Here’s my big question:  Will LaDuree’s macarons be as good as those from Bisou Ciao?  After all, the LaDuree macarons have to fly all the way from France every day in cargo (mon dieu!). If you’ve tried both already let me know how they compare in the comments! (more…)

Banana Smore Ice Cream

Quality Meats' Sundae: Photo courtesy Midtown Lunch/Blondie and Brownie

Midtown Lunch did a really cool write-up on Quality Meats’ Ice Cream Cake Sundaes, available for another 4 days only.   I like the sound of the toasted banana s’mores sundae embedded with a mini chocolate bar and freshly toasted marshmallow but you’ll have to read the review and decide which one you want for yourself. Black sesame ice cream from Soba-Ya in NYC

I wrote a few weeks ago about a trip with some homemade ice cream “enthusiasts” to Chikalicious Dessert Club where we tried the adult chocolate pudding.  That same night, I had dinner at Soba-Ya and found their desserts (and savory food) to be quite excellent. (more…)

Local melon granita over a white chocolate panna cotta raspberries and lemon shortbread

Over the past year I have had the pleasure of participating in dessert tastings from many great New York City restaurants.  And one of the things that often strikes me about the best pastry chefs is their ability to not only execute great desserts night in and night out, but to also bring something new to the table–or in Mas’s Pastry Chef Catrine Oscarson’s case, something new to the farm table.   (more…)

Snow Cone from Cascabel Taqueria

If you write a food blog you are frequently subjected to foodies and their strong, hyperbolic opinions.  One of the most common kvetches I hear in New York is that there is no good Mexican food.  There may be some truth to this, especially when you consider how many great restaurants there are in this city–but come on, none in all of New York?
