Junior's will offer free cheesecake or layer cake when you order a lunch

In celebration of National Dessert Day on Friday, October 14th, and the publication of Junior’s Dessert Cookbook, Junior’s is offering a free slice of its famous cheesecake or slice of its skyscraper layer cakes with the purchase of any dine-in lunch or dinner entrée on that day at its four locations: Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, Grand Central Terminal and Times Square in Manhattan, and MGM Grand at Foxwoods in Connecticut. "Wancko" cookie - peanut butter chocolate chip and pretzel chunks

Of all the gatherings of “gourmet” food carts and street food vendors in Manhattan I think Madison Square Eats has the highest percentage of great vendors.  On the savory side,  there are too many to mention them all.  Here’s a select few: Calexico Cart, Asia Dog, and Roberta’s (real wood oven) pizzas.  On the sweet side there’s plenty of standouts as well.  Some of my favorite picks are featured below. Vegan Chocolate Chip Brownie from Baby Cakes Bakery by Erin McKenna

The all-vegan Baby Cakes Bakery had some killer chocolate chip brownies at the  New York Food and Wine “Sweet” event.  I seriously could have eaten about ten of these things.  Not sure anyone would ever be able to tell that these brownies were vegan and gluten free.   (more…)

Chocolate green tea lava cake with green tea ice cream

Ian Chalermkittichai recently replaced Pichet Ong as the pastry chef for Spot Dessert Bar and from what I can tell, most of the menu has been changed. You can still get cookies, cupcakes, macarons and restaurant-quality plated desserts, however for the first time the menu also lists a number of savory items (none of which were available yet). Karen DeMasco of Locanda Verde Cranberry Spiced griddle cake with Mascarpone Gelato
