I’ve been a fan of the the Ukranian soul food at Veselka for over 25 years. When I was little my standard order was a cheese burger deluxe and a vanilla shake and they would always leave the tall stainless steel milkshake container on the table after they filled your glass. I thought that was the greatest thing (I was 12) in the world becuase I would end up getting about a quart of milkshake! (more…)

Macarons from Bosie Damien Hergatt of the tea Parlor
I visited the Bosie Tea Parlor last week to see what Top 10 Pastry Chef honoree Damien Hergott was up to and was reminded again just how good this guy is. Bosie only keeps a small stock of pastry on hand but each and every creation is absolutely perfect down the to smallest detail. I had a two scones (a chocolate and a blueberry) and two fantastic canele that were still warm at 10:00 a.m. when I arrived. Bisous Ciao's beautiful Macarons
News & Notes: Bisous Ciao is opening a second store on super-high-traffic Bleecker Street. Workers seemed to be quite engaged for a hot and sticky Friday morning. They are going to have to sell a lot of macarons at this location with rent they will likely be paying. The sign says “August 2012″. Stay Tuned.

Vegan Divas doughnuts
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Vegan Divas first “bricks and mortar” bakery on the Upper East Side. We’ve been long-time fans of Vegan Divas rich, high-end vegan baked goods and it was great to see their healthier desserts take off. We first reviewed them back in early 2010 and since then they’ve grown by leaps and bounds. Their full line of offerings, including brownies, chocolate mousse and macaroons first debuted in Butterfield Market. Now they can be found in Garden of Eden, Westside Markets and Citarella. (more…)
