One of the coolest and most accessible food events in New York City is the annual Macaron Day.  This year the event will be held on Wednesday March 20.  One addition to this year’s offerings include Macaron Day aprons for sale with proceeds going to City Harvest.

As of this writing 15 bakeries, (13 in NYC)  will be participating and offering free macarons to customers (supplies are limited so go early)  To receive a free macaron just tell the shop you are there for Macaron Day NYC.

Jacques Torres’ “Mad Mac” Caneles

Since I’ve gone crazy for caneles recently,  I thought it was worth noting that Jacques Torres’ Hudson Street store had a display of caneles on sale a few weeks ago.  I asked if they were made by the only MOF pastry chef in New York–Jacques Torres.  Surprisingly,  I was told they were not made by Torres but by Florian Bellanger from Cupcake Wars and  MadMac macarons.
