Of course this means Soho will now be jam packed with bakeries. Including Balthazar Bakery at 80 Spring St., Birdbath Bakery at 160 Prince St., Ivy Bakery at 138 West Houston (opened in September), Francois Payard Bakery at 116 West Houston St. and Grandaisy bakery on 73 Sullivan St. Of course, with the exception of Payard, Ansel’s bakery is the only one likely carry unique specialty items that New Yorkers and foodie tourists crave. Seasonal desserts preview: Rouge Tomate
I stopped in at the Michelin starred Rouge Tomate and tried some of their superb desserts from Pastry Chef James Distefano. Distefano works closely with an in-house nutritionist to make sure each individual dish, as well as the entire dessert menu meets certain nutritional requirements. The results? Full-on gourmet desserts that are just as satisfying as their less healthy cousins. I think Rouge Tomate is really onto something. Look for a full review coming soon. Rouge Tomate is located on 10 East 60th Street. Their website is here.
